Suite of Components

Each core feature of Sharperlight is made up of a suite of individual components.
They can be used independently to help you shape and refine your information to exactly how you want.

Sharperlight can present dynamic tables, charts, pivot tables and presentation reports using its own web service. It has an application called Publisher, for managing and configuring these published queries. Each query can be filtered and refreshed in the web, and it will return the latest data.

The web content delivered through Publisher can be graduated with basic HTML4 tables, more complex HTML4 with Javascript automation, all the way to sophisticated HTML5 visualisations.
The core charting engine renders the graphics in HTML5.
Every published query has a unique web address referencing the query and the output style. This means each query can be uniquely referenced in a webpage, or in an email, or bookmarked in a web browser.
For pixel perfect report layouts, Publisher has a WYSIWYG report designer that can output reports to PDF, HTML and Microsoft Word.

Dashboards are created and maintained using an HTML5 interface in a web browser. A dashboard consists of a page and each page can contain multiple rectangular tiles. The tiles can be resized and re-positioned, the tile can display published content from Publisher or display any valid web address.

Tiles have a default content view and an expanded view that can be displayed by double clicking on the tile title bar.
A single dashboard can mashup content from multiple data sources.
Every dashboard has a unique URL address and thus, they can be embedded into any browser interface that supports a URL.
Tiles can auto align to each other or overlap, each can have different colour scheme and tooltips can be added to the tile title bar.

The Sharperlight Excel® Add-in gives end-users easy access to the Query Builder and a drilldown data explorer. The Sharperlight queries are ancored in the worksheets, using formulas and the construction of these formulas is wizard driven through the Query Builder. These formulas fully support cell referencing and automatic recalculation, so results will refresh as filters are changed or when a recalculation is forced.

The Microsoft Excel Add-in is compatible with Excel 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019 (formulas, cells, tables and sheets), Office 365.
Filter with cell referencing and automatic lookup windows appear when double clicking referenced cells.
Query Manager for managing and re-using seed queries in the same workbook.
The Sharperlight formulas are drilldown points which can loaded into Explorer for slice and dice analysis.

Sharperlight has multiple methods of data capture. From within Microsoft Excel, the Sharperlight Add-in can validate and bulk load records using its template driven Writeback interface. The are also Writeback formulas where the Sharperlight formula can be over-written, the input value is interpreted and updated in the data source whilst the cell is reverted back to the formula. In the web Sharperlight can generate web entry forms and entry grids.

All data updates are managed through the secure datamodel layer where rules and constraints are enforced.
Extensive control on lookup and validation lists to ensure that incomplete or erroneous information is caught in the data entry and not during the data load.
Data capture uses the Sharperlight Web Service to interface with the target data store and therefore, the data entry does not need a direct connection to the target system.

The Query Builder is a user interface with separate panes for filters, field selection and output. Simple enough for the infrequent user but it does have deep functionality with menus on each pane title and fields have right hand click menus. In the filter pane the user can select between different query styles using the mode filter and when the user selects the table, it becomes the focus for the query structure and it populates the fields and relationships in the selection pane.

The datamodel acts as a presentation layer between the complexity of the data source and presents to the users a unified view of query tables, with available fields and relationships.
The Query Builder uses drag and drop to select filters and outputs, most fields can be a filter and/or an output. The query engine will construct the query on the fly and optimise the syntax.
The filters can inherit and display lookup lists from the datamodel and there are standard lookup wizards for dates and periods.
Query results can be previewed in the Query Builder to assist in query design and Preview grid supports drill for further analysis.

The Scheduler is an automation interface for the execution of tasks on a recurring and ad-hoc basis. Each task can have many actions and a task can be executed manually or a schedule. To allow concurrent activity, the Scheduler is only available on installations that have five or more full licenses.

Optionally and conditionally execute reports that can store, save and email content.
Include expression based logic to drive multiple scenarios.
Send notification and exception reporting.
Create, collate and deliver Board Report packs.

It is sometimes useful to have the ability to stage query data into a physical data set that can be summarised for performance or fixed to allow consistent reporting. Often referred to as Agile Datamarts, Sharperlight has a simple end-user interface called Materialised Query for designing and populating physical tables based on a query.

The data can be refreshed at will or on a schedule, or it can be held indefinitely as an audit history.
Materialised queries are presented to the end-user as just another datamodel and they can be queried using all the standard Sharperlight functionality and presentation tools.

Sharperlight is an application framework for interacting with complex operational databases and it controls all data interactions using an abstraction layer called a Datamodel. These models are developed and maintained using a Studio designer and at the lowest level they encapsulate data structures, relationships and business rules.

The data definition is only part of the story, datamodels have a rich command language and data access can be controlled and modified based on system, user and data events. Datamodels are also fully multi-lingual, just like the Sharperlight application, and a datamodel can combine .NET code and package WinForms and web content.

Whilst many Sharperlight customers utilise it for spreadsheet integration, self-service reporting, web reporting and dashboarding; it has a much bigger picture. Sharperlight has a secure gateway and a web service, a datamodelling concept that can unify information from numerous data sources and the tools to quickly develop datamodels and user content.

The report designer provides more control on the positioning and layout of report pages, and it addresses many of the printing limitations inherit in web browser rendering. It uses a third party component library to provide the reporting engine and a graphical What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWG) designer interface.

Uses the Query Builder to construct the data sets and it automatically integrates the query as a report data source.
Allows pixel perfect control of field and object placement for reports and business documents.
Reports can be accessed through the Sharperlight Web Service and run locally on computers that have the Sharperlight rich client.
In the web the reports use the common filter bar to feed parameters back to the underlying reporting engine.
The reports can be rendered into PDF and native HTML, it also supports output to Microsoft Excel and Word.

Often there are benefits using lightweight messaging and thus, the MQTT messaging protocol has been added to the Sharperlight libraries. MQTT is an ISO standard publish-subscribe model where the publisher sends messages to a broker (server) and the broker then distributes the information to any clients that have subscribed to the topic. Another way to describe MQTT, is that it can collect data from many devices and then transport the information to other control systems.

With MQTT, Sharperlight means it can act as both a client and server.
Scheduler has an action to host the MQTT Server (broker). The server can be bound to a Service Code and authenticated using the user accounts in Site Setup or specified user details.
There is an equivalent MQTT Server query table in System datamodel, it can be used by the Query Builder to return the last retained data values for each topic.
The JavaScript libraries have been extended to include functions to connect, publish and subscribe to MQTT.
There are new expression functions to send messages.

Sharperlight mostra tabelle dinamiche, grafici, tabelle pivot e report di presentazione utilizzando il proprio servizio Web. Al suo interno trovate l’applicazione Publisher, per la gestione e la configurazione delle query pubblicate.

Ogni query può essere filtrata e aggiornata nel Web, con aggiornamento dei vostri dati più recenti.

Il contenuto web fornito tramite Publisher può essere importato su tabelle HTML4 di base, HTML4 più complesso con automazione Javascript, fino a sofisticate visualizzazioni HTML5. Il motore grafico principale rende la grafica in HTML5.

Ogni query pubblicata ha un indirizzo web univoco che fa riferimento alla specifica query e al suo stile di Output. Questo significa che ogni query può essere collegata in maniera univoca in una pagina web o in un’e-mail o aggiunta ai preferiti in un browser Web.

Per assicurare un ottimale layout dei report, Publisher è dotato di tecnologia WYSIWYG in grado di generare report in PDF, HTML e Microsoft Word.

Le dashboard vengono create e gestite utilizzando un’interfaccia HTML5 in un browser web.

Ogni dashboard è costituita da una pagina che può contenere più riquadri rettangolari. I riquadri possono essere dimensionati secondo le proprie esigenze e riposizionati in maniera personalizzata, in modo da rendere più efficace la lettura del dato. Nel riquadro è possibile anche inserire un contenuto di Publisher o un web link valido.

I riquadri hanno una visualizzazione del contenuto predefinita, che può essere ingrandita (con doppio click sulla barra del titolo del riquadro).

Una singola dashboard può unificare i contenuti provenienti da più origini dati. Poiché ogni dashboard ha un indirizzo URL univoco, può essere incorporata in qualsiasi interfaccia browser che supporti un URL.

Le tiles possono allinearsi automaticamente tra loro o sovrapporsi, è possibile anche personalizzarle in maniera distinta con colori e descrizioni dei comandi (che si possono aggiungere sulla barra del titolo).

Il tool aggiuntivo “Sharperlight Excel” offre agli utenti un accesso semplice al Generatore di query e un comando di drilldown.

Le query Sharperlight sono incluse nei fogli di lavoro, quindi tramite una creazione guidata è possibile creare ogni tipo di report. Le formule, infatti, supportano i riferimenti alle celle e tramite ricalcolo automatico i risultati verranno aggiornati od ogni modifica di filtro o richiesta di ricalcolo.

Il componente aggiuntivo di Microsoft Excel è compatibile con le versioni di Excel 2007, 2010, 2013 e 2016 (formule, celle, tabelle e fogli).

Basta fare doppio click sulle celle di riferimento per visualizzare il filtro con riferimento alle celle e finestre di ricerca automatica.

Sharperlight ha diverse modalità per acquisire i dati.

Da Microsoft Excel il componente Sharperlight Add-in può caricare in blocco i record sia validandoli direttamente sia tramite sovrascrittura, il valore di input viene interpretato ed aggiornato nell’origine dati contestualmente.

Su web Sharperlight può generare moduli compilabili con dati e griglie.

Tutti gli aggiornamenti dei dati vengono gestiti in maniera sicura secondo le regole ed i vincoli impostati. Viene inoltre applicata una verifica degli elenchi di ricerca con una convalida, in modo che eventuali informazioni incomplete o errate vengano subito evidenziate e corrette in fase di immissione dei dati (e non durante il caricamento degli stessi nella query).

Data Capture utilizza il Web Sharperlight Service per interfacciarsi con i dati di target di destinazione, questo implica che non è necessaria una connessione diretta al sistema di destinazione.

Query Builder è un’interfaccia utente con riquadri distinti per filtri, selezione di campi e output. Di uso abbastanza semplice, ma dotato di funzionalità che permettono un’analisi approfondita grazie a menu presenti su ogni titolo del riquadro e ai menu di scelta rapida presenti su tutti i campi.

Nei riquadri di filtro ogni utente può selezionare lo stile di query più efficace, selezionando la tabella e popolando così i dati.

Il datamodel si pone come livello di presentazione e permette di articolare la complessità dei dati e presentarli in una vista unificata, con la possibilità di analizzare i singoli campi e le relazioni tra di essi.

Query Builder utilizza la funzione di “drag and drop” per selezionare filtri e output, la maggior parte dei campi può essere un filtro e/o un output; la query verrà contestualmente costruita, ottimizzando la sintassi.

I filtri possono mantenere gli elenchi di ricerca preimpostati e sono presenti istruzioni guidate per date e per periodi.

E’ possibile visualizzare in anteprima i risultati in modo da aggiungere o modificare la progettazione secondo le esigenze.

Scheduler è un’interfaccia di automazione per eseguire attività ricorrenti o personalizzate. Ogni attività può essere composta da diverse azioni e può essere pianificata o eseguita manualmente. Scheduler è disponibile solo su installazione con 5 o più licenze complete.

Disponibile opzione per consentire l’esecuzione di report che permettono di archiviare, salvare ed inviare tramite e-mail i relativi contenuti, con invio di notifica per eventuali eccezioni. È in grado anche di creare, fascicolare e distribuire pacchetti di più report.

Agile Datamarts è utile per avere la possibilità di organizzare i dati delle query in un set di dati che tramite riepilogo aiuta a visualizzare in maniera efficace e fisica le prestazioni e la coerenza dei costi/servizi.

La sua interfaccia, chiamata Materialized Query, permette la progettazione e il popolamento di tabelle fisiche basate su una query.

I dati possono essere aggiornati in ogni momento, secondo pianificazione o conservati cronologicamente come storico. Le sue query vengono presentate all’utente finale come datamodel, quindi possono essere analizzate usando le normali funzionalità di Sharperlight.

Si tratta di un framework applicativo l’interazione di database operativi complessi, controllando tutte le interazioni dei dati (tramite un livello di astrazione chiamato “Datamodel”).

Questi modelli vengono sviluppati e mantenuti utilizzando uno “Studio designer”, in pratica incapsulano strutture di dati, relazioni e regole di business.

La definizione dei dati è solo una parte della storia, i Datamodel hanno un ricco linguaggio di comandi e l’accesso ai dati può essere personalizzato e organizzato in base al tipo di dati o utenti.

Datamodel è multilingua, come Sharperlight, e ognuno può combinare codici .NET, pacchetto WinForms e contenuto web.

Sebbene molti clienti di Sharperlight utilizzano questo strumento per l’integrazione di fogli di calcolo, report, reporting pianificato e dashboards, in realtà si può fare molto di più. Sharperlight dispone di un gateway sicuro e di un servizio Web, con la possibilità di avere Datamodels in grado di unificare le informazioni provenienti da diverse origini dati e con gli strumenti per creare velocemente Datamodels secondo la vostra tipologia di dati e contenuti.

Il Datamodel e le interfacce delle applicazioni sono protette sul server tramite Site Setup.

L’autenticazione dell’utente è disponibile come accesso nativo, utilizzando l’autenticazione di Windows, Active Directory Groups e LDAP Groups.

Un Datamodel può avere il proprio livello di sicurezza dei dati, che protegge gli oggetti delle query visibili e impone il livello di sicurezza del record.

Report Designer fornisce un maggiore controllo sul posizionamento e il layout delle pagine del report e risolve molte limitazioni di stampa, presenti normalmente nel Web Browser.

Utilizza una libreria esterna per dare il motore di reporting e un’interfaccia grafica di progettazione WYSIWG (What You See Is What You Get). Utilizza il Query Builder per costruire i set di dati e integra automaticamente la query come origine dati del report.

Consente il perfetto controllo del campo (per pixel) e il posizionamento degli oggetti per il report e i documenti aziendali. E’ possibile accedere ai report tramite servizio Web Sharperlight ed eseguirli localmente sul computer che dispone del rich client Sharperlight. Nel Web i report utilizzano la normale barra filtri per inviare i parametri al motore di report sottostante.

I report possono essere visualizzati in PDF e HTML nativo; supporta anche l’output in Microsoft Excel e Word.

Approfittando dei vantaggi nell’uso di messaggistica leggera, è stato aggiunto il protocollo di messaggistica MQTT alle librerie Sharperlight.

MQTT è un modello di pubblicazione – sottoscrizione standard ISO in cui l’editore invia messaggi a un brocker (il server) ed esso li distribuisce a tutti i client che si sono iscritti all’argomento. Possiamo anche descrivere MQTT come colui che può raccogliere dati da molti dispositivi e trasportare le informazioni ad altri sistemi di controllo.

Con MQTT, Sharperlight può agire sia come client che come server. Lo Scheduler ha la possibilità di ospitare il server MQTT (brocker). Il server può essere associato a un service code e autenticato utilizzando gli user account definiti nella configurazione del sito o utenti specificamente designati.

E’ presente una tabella di query del server MQTT equivalente a quella del Datamodel, che può essere utilizzata dal Query Builder per restituire gli ultimi valori di dati conservati per ogni argomento.

Le librerie JavaScript sono state estese per includere funzioni per connettersi, pubblicare e iscriversi a MQTT. Sono disponibili nuove funzioni per inviare messaggi.
